Making Small Healthier Choices

January is the month everyone attempts a health kit along with some new year new me bullshit. Let’s face it, we all say it, the start of the year is the best time to set some goals, some people stick to those and some people forget come February. I think its good to always be working towards something and for the majority of us it’s usually healthy eating and more exercise which I still haven’t hacked myself. Although the last 6 months I’ve been going to the gym every week as much as possible which is a big step up from doing no exercise at all. I’m definitely going to keep the gym up this year, I feel so much better for it and now my sister comes with me so I always have someone to motivate me to go.

I am yet to master a healthy eating diet that works for me, although I don’t think I eat much junk food anymore apart from the occasional large bar of chocolate once every few months which I enjoy too much to let go. I haven’t eaten breakfast on weekdays for a really long time, I just don’t have time before going to work and I know I should make time as it’s the most important meal of the day. Maybe it’s a change I’ll make this year. My lunch could be a lot healthier, I always take sandwiches and fruit which has saved me a lot of money but I do want to stray away from so much bread, I’ve tried making my own salads but honestly they didn’t taste so great. Lunch is something I’d really like to improve on this year and experiment more with. My evening meals are usually quite healthy and filling so I rarely snack after my dinner which is something I used to do a lot when I was younger. If I am hungry I tend to just grab a cereal.

I’ve never been particularly keen on meal replacement diets, although I’ve never tried one so when So Shape offered the 5 Day Challenge I did my research and actually really liked the sound how it works, you can choose from the 5, 10 or 28 day challenge. I went for the 5 day one which you receive 10 supplements for. They supply a wide range of flavours from Tomato soup to deserts like Lemon Cheesecake. There are 22 flavours to choose from and they advise you to have one at lunch and one at dinner time but you can switch this around to fit your lifestyle. I preferred to have one for breakfast and one for lunch and then a normal meal for my dinner. Not only do these help you to loose weight but they’re full of healthy ingredients and energiseing which is great for those who want to tone up and eat healthy like myself.

So Shape are the 1# weight loss program in France since 2014 and I can see why – their smart meals are really quick and easy to make, they come in small sachets and only need to be mixed with water. Also proven to be gluten free and very cost effective. They send you a water bottle which is great for keeping track of your 2 litres a day intake, something I struggle to do but considering I never used to like water at all a few years ago I’m doing pretty well with drinking a lot throughout the day. I always make sure I have a couple of bottles at work and I drink squash when I’m at home as I prefer this. I used to drink an awful lot of tea, I could make 5-8 cups a day (although most of them go cold) this month I’m completely cut down to 2 a day and definitely no more than 4. I’ve found myself not craving it at all and this is a big cut down on sugar.

I really enjoyed the So Shape challenge, it was interesting to finally try a diet out and see if it worked for me. The flavours I enjoyed the most were Mushroom Risotto and Brownie, these tasted far better than I thought they would. This is definitely a challenge I’d try out again, if I wanted to lose a few pounds then I would have gone for the 28 day challenge and really stuck to a healthy diet to track how much weight I lost. I’m really enjoying making small changes to my lifestyle, I feel so much better in myself when I manage to eat healthy and fit exercise into my schedule. Hopefully I can keep this up all year.

I’d really like to improve my lunches this year too – starting with making it mayself rather than buying something unhealthy (and pricey ) at work !

This sounds like such a good idea to kickstart a healthy eating regime. I must admit, I’ve been feeling pretty rubbish about my body lately as I’ve been eating non stop and my habits have gotten really bad. I’m especially awful at snacking late at night, which needs to stop x

I’m so terrible at dieting so I think I’d probably fail a challenge like this – but I’m definitely going to try and cook more this year to be a little healthier!

What an interesting idea! So strange that it comes in little sachets though, not sure I could keep up this diet for more than 5 days!
