Summer is just around the corner and you can almost feel the whole nation becoming more and more excited about having guests over on long summer evenings. There’s something magical about being able to sit out in the garden with the people you love the most, and why shouldn’t we? Living in the UK usually means rain. Or really heavy rain. So, when the sun does peep it’s head out of the clouds, we’re armed and ready to make the most of it. Want to step up your game this summer when having guests over? No worries, check out our best tips for entertaining so that you can wow everyone and also make some amazing memories.
Theme your evenings
Having the invitation to spend the evening with friends is exciting in itself, so why not vamp it up and theme your evenings? Whether you live slap bang in the middle of the city, or you’re a country bumpkin, there’s always themes that you could use for your get together. Choose something that’s going to relate to the guests that you’re having over. So, if you’ve got a friend that’s really into their Bond movies, then why not create the scene by theming your party accordingly? It will make the night much more exciting and have everyone talking about it for weeks!
Set out the table well in advance
“The table”. Anyone who’s ever entertained knows that the table means the centre of most of the evening. It’s where you’ll serve food, sit and chat, and also even play some party games. It’s always a good idea to set out the table well in advance so that if any last minute changes are made, you’ve got plenty of time to still make everything look good. Don’t forget that choosing the correct cutlery for your dinner table is something you will need to think about if you’re choosing to go with a dressy theme, as it’s what you’d expect if you were to head out to a fancy restaurant.
Create a refreshment station
You will of course, be rushing around to make sure that everyone has got a drink and that there aren’t any problems. However, your guests are here to see you, not judge your hosting skills! Let them pour their own drinks without feeling like they have to ask, or are rummaging through your cupboards. Create a refreshment station so that everyone can fill up as and when they feel like it. A much easier night for you too!
Buy something to become a talking point
If there’s one thing that every get together needs, it’s a focal point. Something to spark conversation. You may have been friends for years but almost everyone will admit that sometimes at parties, conversation can be lost to begin with. Save that awkwardness and buy something to become a talking point so that you and your guests can dive straight in to having a wonderful evening!
